This chapter of my life starts during the Covid lockdown which was a real eye opener for me and gave me the space I needed to really visualize and consolidate what I wanted to build in my life. I wanted more meaning and happiness and longed to create something bigger than myself. I wanted to feel connected to people and nature in a way that brought me more stability, focus and overall purpose. I finally saw so much purpose and freedom in serving others – and wanted to leave some sort of a legacy for my family. All that to say, that working in nature and connecting with it in a deeper way brought me a satisfaction and joy that I had never experienced before. I understood that everything was interconnected and had a purpose, which meant that I did too.
I came up with the name Blackfeather Lumber when I started logging and finding black feathers everywhere on the ground I was working and stomping on. I was growing and getting to know myself, and the feathers were a sign that I was on the right path.
I love nature, always have, and working in its presence grounds me. This is important as I could not have gotten this far without its grace. My logo represents all the things most important to me: roots shooting downwards that represent where I am from, my family, my stability and the feather representing my growth, my journey and what is yet to come.
This is my dream that I am bringing to life, and my motto has quite literally become (from a book I discovered and read to my kids) . . . ‘BE A TREE’
